Stuck in Editing Hell

Sorry, I haven’t been blogging for a while. I have been swamped with work and I hadn’t had time to write. So this weekend I have been working on editing my much an overdue chapters FSOBE and Chain Reaction.

And my beta for Chain Reaction has gone awol so I have to edit this chapter myself. With my borderline dyslexia, it’s the tenth level of hell.

I’m considering going back to using Dragon Naturally Speaking. However, I don’t really like using it. But what is making this hell that I have gone through at least three drafts to get to this point? I might do an editing and writing combo thing during my second draft.

Read it out loud and revise. I’ll tell you guys how it will work out. Anyway, I will talk to you guys later.

ETA: I have been freed from my editing hell. My beta has come through!

Nose To The Grindstone

So no word count today. These last few days I have been editing. First the prologue and chapter 1 of Chain Reaction. Both are off to my beta DarkLadyEris who is currently whipping it into shape Now, I’m working on chapter 11 of FSOBE.  I still have to finishing that by the way. I have also noticed that now that my word count is up to 1k a day most days that my chapter word counts are getting longer.

Chapter 1 of Chain Reaction was almost 3k long and this latest chapter of FSOBE was 2.5k.  This is a lot when most of my usual chapters I have done are about 1-1.5k in length. So good on me for that.

Also recently, I have decided to work on my weak spots as a writer. Description.  I got a great writing exercise from my friend Jordan S. Brock and it’s going to be awesome when it comes to fight scenes. I actually have an illustrated book of martial moves that will diffidently come in hand for that.  I’m also working on description, I actually borrowed a book on Amazon Unlimited called ‘ The Heart and Craft of Writing Compelling Description by Sharon M. Lippincott about description and quite frankly it’s pretty brilliant. It gave me a lot of things to think about and writing exercises as well.

The book gave a wonderful idea about highlighting and taking snippets from the books I read  and inputting them into a word processor and using them as inspiration. Which is a great idea and I wish I had thought it up myself. It’s a wonderful way to learn writing and I already highlighted this book that I’m reading The Omega’s Secret Baby (Oceanport Omegas, #1) by Ann-Katrin Byrde which is by the title you already know it’s romance and mpreg romance to boot.  However, it is fanatically well written and compelling and I’m almost halfway through.

The thing is alternating POV between the two characters Matt and Elias and it’s in first person. I thought about doing first person, but organically my best POV is third person limited POV. It has the intimacy of first person without the hangups, and omnipresent is just too confusing for me sometimes.

Anyway, I’m off to bed you guys. I will talk to you later. I probably will be back to Chain Reaction tomorrow. So stay tuned for some teasers later on.  Ta Ta For Now!

ETA: So just after I finished proofreading this post who shall IM me, but my kickass beta DLE. So guess what I will be doing again tomorrow after I’m done with FSOBE? Yep! I will be editing for a third day in roll, but the good news for you guys there are diffidently more teasers ahead.

Off The Chain

Today’s Word Count: 1116 words

So Offline Google Docs decided to flip me the finger and I had to write on Focus Writer and copy and paste that shit into Docs for my beta readers convenience. I’m done with Chapter 1.  This chapter I was really concentrating on setting the universe and Aster’s (aka Harry Potter) current circumstances in Gotham City.

I think I did okay, but every word was a fight to write. However, I did hit my 1K daily goal and I’m somewhat happy with it.  I’m diffidently going to do some final editing before posting but it’s just some tweaks here and there.  The final word count was like something close to 2k.  Which I’m really happy about! Something quality to get the fic started.

I had an issue not describing every action like always. I know this is not a play, but I have a hard time balancing what actions I should be describing and what actions I shouldn’t be describing. I’m going to do some googling so I can get some advice.

I also fear that this chapter was mostly filler, but I think coming off that harrowing Prologue that my readers are going to really need to catch their breath. I added a lot of characterization and when I edit I will add things to really make her character voice pop on stage. Fortunately, I did end it on an awesome note which I’m totally excited about. I really can’t wait until my beta gives me feedback on Monday.

Anyway, that is all for today! Before I go, I want to say hello to my new followers! I’m shockingly surprised that anyone wants to hear my rambles, but thank you for following me just the same. *hugs*

Off With A Start + Chain Reaction Teaser

Today’s Word Count: 1025 words

So this was my first day working on my Trans Harry Potter/Bruce Wayne fic that I have rebooted like six million times called ‘Chain Reaction’, which is the first story in the Criss Cross Series. It took me a while to get the hang of things. It was a bit of slog, I was trying to find the right words to say, trying to get that first page to be a good hook for my readers.

Although, it was a struggle it was worth it in the end because I’m really satisfied with my first 1k of this fic.  I was also surprised how much better my writing with this fic is then when I started on FSOBE which was my first fic in like two or three years ago. It is really loads better, and for someone who touted to everyone and their mama that I was unable to write it diffidently something to be proud of.

Truth be told, I was going to skip this writing session because I wanted to work on the cover art for Chain Reaction. Art continues to be my first love. So it’s hard to pry myself away from art, especially when already started on a piece. But it was nap time, and this is my usual set writing time. I really don’t want to mess up my hard-won writing routine. It has made more productive on the writing front than I know what to do with.

As for balancing art and my writing that is going to really hard. but I’m willing to sacrifice to contribute to my passions of art and writing.

As for ‘Chain Reaction” I have a general outline of all the plot points I want to hit, notes on character’s personalities in such in my one note. I have Scrivener, but I can work much more easily with my Google Docs and My Onenote.  And unlike Scrivener, both are accessible to any device and is backup to a cloud.

Anyway, “Chain Reaction’ much FSOBE is going to be longer in the second draft. I’m thinking it’s going to be 25k in the end, but we shall see. My end word counts predictions almost never pan out.

Well, that’s all I got to say for today. So as promised here is my excerpt (remember this is an unedited draft ya’ll) of ‘Chain Reaction’.

Filler R US?

Today’s Word Count: 1069 words

So writing FOSBE. I decided that I wouldn’t work on the second draft of  ‘Chain Reaction’ until I finished writing this chapter of FOSBE. It’s just a way for me to stop myself from neglecting any of my other stories. It’s working, but I’m having a hard time trying to not to write the shiny new story.

It’s the curse of having ADD, I guess.   I’m very happy with today’s word count. It wasn’t a complete slog like yesterday and I had to stop myself from writing. As much as I loved writing today I had other chores to do before the kids got up from their nap. I actually really giving myself an allotted time to write instead of a word count goal.

It’s way less stressful trying to meet a goal, and it keeps my writing environment fluid. I also got a few followers! Hello, followers! I’m sorry the theme is not more awesome, but right now I’m just trying out the writing blog type of thing.

It really helps me bring keeps everything perspective.

As for this chapter, I honestly feel like a lot of its filler. But honestly, its character development and explaining what potentially might be plot holes.  I still think that this is not my best work and a good portion of the credit goes to my editor/beta reader Melaine. But the more I write, the more it’s getting less painful to write.

I used to get the horrible anxiety attack when I used to write, but now it’s so much better.   Anyway, that’s all I got for today. So I will see you guys here next time!

Short and Sweet

So I haven’t been updating this blog for a while. I stopped doing daily prompts because I have been bitten by the plot bunny of doom. It’s fanfiction, but like many writers, before me, I’m basically using it as a training ground. I also have been writing during the kid’s naptime at least five days a week.

As for what I’m writing right now, I’m writing a transgender Harry Potter/Batman crossover that I have rebooted three or four times.  I have determined that I’m going to just write shorter episodes with an overall story arc. I’m going to see how it works.

I have also determined that outlining is really not for me, the fun is putting the pieces together in a story.  So I actually record my story notes on my phone with a voice memo action, because of that how I work out the overall arch of the story.

So yeah, I’m working on a lot of fanfiction. Reading everything I can get my hands on and trying to improve.
