Drafting Like A Boss

Total Word Count: 1228 words

So I decided to attack my horrible first draft of Chapter 1 of Chain Reaction. I’m so much happier with my second draft. However, I’m really regretting posting the prologue and chapter 1 as fast as I did. Because now, I want to go back and add things. Especially some more characterization on Aster’s part or maybe some scenes where Aster has some British-American mishaps. And I honestly think that would be cheating and not fair to my readers. Lesigh, we all have to play with the cards we are dealt I guess.

I really love this second draft though, and honestly working on this draft really confirms my feelings that this is a story that needs to be told despite the lack of kudos and attention. Honestly, I think I need a strong grammar nitpicker and maybe a britpicker as well. However, I don’t want to ask because I’m so grateful for DLE for betaing. I don’t want to disrespect her, I might have to go over it with a TTS reader just to be sure and I’m totally going to hold off posting it until I can make sure my last chapter syncs up with my new chapter.

Anyway, I’m done for today and I’m so happy with what I got right now. So I’m going to just say ttfn and go on my merry way!

Off The Chain

Today’s Word Count: 1116 words

So Offline Google Docs decided to flip me the finger and I had to write on Focus Writer and copy and paste that shit into Docs for my beta readers convenience. I’m done with Chapter 1.  This chapter I was really concentrating on setting the universe and Aster’s (aka Harry Potter) current circumstances in Gotham City.

I think I did okay, but every word was a fight to write. However, I did hit my 1K daily goal and I’m somewhat happy with it.  I’m diffidently going to do some final editing before posting but it’s just some tweaks here and there.  The final word count was like something close to 2k.  Which I’m really happy about! Something quality to get the fic started.

I had an issue not describing every action like always. I know this is not a play, but I have a hard time balancing what actions I should be describing and what actions I shouldn’t be describing. I’m going to do some googling so I can get some advice.

I also fear that this chapter was mostly filler, but I think coming off that harrowing Prologue that my readers are going to really need to catch their breath. I added a lot of characterization and when I edit I will add things to really make her character voice pop on stage. Fortunately, I did end it on an awesome note which I’m totally excited about. I really can’t wait until my beta gives me feedback on Monday.

Anyway, that is all for today! Before I go, I want to say hello to my new followers! I’m shockingly surprised that anyone wants to hear my rambles, but thank you for following me just the same. *hugs*

Short and Sweet

So I haven’t been updating this blog for a while. I stopped doing daily prompts because I have been bitten by the plot bunny of doom. It’s fanfiction, but like many writers, before me, I’m basically using it as a training ground. I also have been writing during the kid’s naptime at least five days a week.

As for what I’m writing right now, I’m writing a transgender Harry Potter/Batman crossover that I have rebooted three or four times.  I have determined that I’m going to just write shorter episodes with an overall story arc. I’m going to see how it works.

I have also determined that outlining is really not for me, the fun is putting the pieces together in a story.  So I actually record my story notes on my phone with a voice memo action, because of that how I work out the overall arch of the story.

So yeah, I’m working on a lot of fanfiction. Reading everything I can get my hands on and trying to improve.
